We approved a brochure advertising the ICN. It will have the dream catcher logo (as seen on the icn/about page). The following was proposed:
Indianola Community (logo) Network http://www.indianola.ia.us It's our vision to provide a source of information for people about the events, organizations, and people of Indianola. Catch the Dream. Make us your first stop on the World Wide Web. We feature links to: City of Indianola Warren County Indianola Community School District Simpson College Chamber of Commerce Churches Local Organizations Indianola Hometown News Weather Search Engines --------------------------------------- Call 515-961-4330 for more information
We agreed that a separate ICN phone line would be best, so the current Silicon Prairie Communications NOC (network operations center) phone line will now be used for the ICN: 961-4330 (An answering machine will be in place by the weekend.)
After discussion, it was decided that Jon would visit with Mayor Kelly about the "City of Indianola" being listed as a link. If Kelly isn't happy about it, Jon will change the wording to something like "Information about Indianola". I will visit with Joe Weinman, Chamber of Commerce president, about linking to a Chamber page. I will also visit with Carol Sinclair, who will assume the Chamber directorship, about ICN working closely with the Chamber. He will also refer to "the county" and "organizations." Jon will design a brochure and I will review it prior to mass distribution. I hope that this will be done within one week.
We discussed "ICN" and the confusion with Iowa Communications Network. Because it's convention for city networks to be called "_____ Community Network" (i.e., Boulder Community Network), we decided to proceed with "Indianola Community Network" as our name but remember to avoid the abbreviation. I'm hoping that with our publicity campaign that "Indianola Community Network" (and "ICN") will be well known with one month.
I suggested that shirts be printed with the following information:
Indianola Community (logo) Network http://www.indianola.ia.usThe group agreed. I'll work with Dave Keller on the design, color(s) (the preference is black on gray), and shirts. I'll pay for the screen work. I'll get back to you within one week to give you details. At that time I'll take orders for shirts.
We're collecting a list of organizations that we would like to see on the ICN. Some examples are: Baseball, Football, Campfire, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Softball, Volleyball, Soccer, Balloon Classic. Please send your suggestions. We are suggesting that nonprofit organizations be considered. There would be no charge for hosting if they change the web page information only once or twice a year. If they want to edit more frequently, there would be a charge of $4.95 per month.
Jon is working with several local businesses to sponsor the ICN (HyVee, Wal Mart, TCI, etc.). It would cost them about $100 a month.
One of the features of the ICN will be Indianola Hometown News. I'm working on the site now. You can see it at: http://www.indianola.com/news You are encouraged to comment on any of the topics listed above or any other concern or comment about ICN.
Sincerely,
Ron Heideman
Jon and I have been working on several details for ICN. We've designed the dreamcatcher logo that you will see on the ICN home page and the school district's /admin page. Your comments are requested. Soon we will have information about the logo available by clicking on the logo on ICN home page.
Until the board becomes more formal, I'm the acting ICN Board President and Jon the acting Executive Director. We felt that this was necessary to continue laying groundwork for the ICN within the community. If any of you see a problem with this, we should meet immediately to become a formal Board. Ron
Jay will work on By Laws and Articles of Incorporation. Ron will put together a draft for a brochure and flyer; AJ will edit it for publication. Pam will send minutes from the last three board meetings to members. We'll meet again April 25, 5:00, at Susan's office.
